About

WoAtlas.com is a free, interactive atlas providing key statistics and data for countries around the world. The goal is to create a modern, modular resource that anyone can use to explore and understand our world.

Why This Project?

Traditional atlases and geography resources can feel static and disconnected from how we learn today. WoAtlas aims to be different:

  • Interactive - Explore data through charts, maps, and rankings rather than static tables
  • Modular - Pick and choose the information relevant to your needs
  • Free - Quality resources shouldn't be locked behind paywalls
  • Verifiable - All data comes from official sources you can check yourself

In an era of misinformation, having easy access to reliable data matters. Whether you're a student researching a country, a teacher preparing a lesson, a journalist fact-checking a claim, or simply curious about the world, this site provides a way to explore the facts for yourself.

What You'll Find

The site covers 217 countries with data including:

  • Demographics - Population, growth rates, life expectancy, infant mortality
  • Economy - GDP, GDP per capita, growth, sector composition (agriculture, industry, services)
  • Trade - Exports and imports, detailed product breakdowns
  • Health - Health expenditure, population pyramids
  • Environment - Greenhouse gas emissions per capita
  • Geography - Surface area, population density, terrain and political maps

Data Sources

Statistics are sourced from the World Bank Open Data platform, which compiles data from officially recognized international sources and national statistical offices. This data is freely available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License.

For Educators

This site is designed with education in mind. Teachers can use it as supplementary material for geography, economics, or social studies courses. Students can explore data interactively, discovering patterns and forming questions on their own.

The interactive nature encourages active learning rather than passive consumption of facts from a textbook.

Technology

WoAtlas.com is built as a static website for fast loading and reliability:

  • Django - Data management and page generation
  • D3.js - Interactive charts and visualizations
  • Leaflet - Interactive maps
